Physical Education

PE plays an important part in education and is particularly important in laying the foundations of a healthy lifestyle both in teenage years and later life. We make every effort to give experience in a wide range of activities, from Orienteering to Indoor Bowling to Canoeing.

Core PE - Physical Education remains a core subject in the curriculum for everyone in S1-S4. Pupils have three periods of core PE each week in S1-S2 and two periods each week in S3-4. In S5 pupils have the opportunity to participate in one period of core PE each week.

Also on offer in S1-2 are many sporting wider achievement options including dance/gymnastics, football, basketball, fitness and rugby.

Courses offered within the department include:

National 4 PE
National 5 PE
NPA Dance
National 5 Dance
Higher PE
Higher Dance

Advanced Higher is offered if there is sufficient pupil uptake and resources available.

In addition the department also offers a Junior Sports Leader Award, Community Sports Leader Award and Dance Leaders Award Level 1 and Level 2. This is open to pupils with a genuine interest in sport, physical education and dance. It is designed to give pupils the opportunity to develop vital skills for life such as planning and organising, communication, teamwork and leadership.
