Advanced Higher Music has three main sections, all of which contribute to the final grade:

• Performing (50%): Perform for 18 minutes (minimum) - 10 minutes (maximum) on two instruments - Grade 5 Standard minumum.
• Composing (15%): Compose or arrange one piece of music (10 marks), review your composition process (5 marks) and analyse a chosen piece of music (5 marks). The composition/arrangement must last between 1 minute (minimum) and 4 minutes 30 seconds (maximum).
• Understanding Music (35%): Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of level-specific music concepts, musical literacy, and analysis of music. Exam paper will last 1 hour and 15 minutes (40 marks).

Advanced Higher is assessed externally.
