Library Information
Falkirk High library is a bright, welcoming space. There are tables where pupils are welcome to sit and study, and a range of soft seating and beanbags to encourage pupils to relax and read for pleasure. We also have a computer suite with twenty two computers. Mrs Bruce is the school librarian and Mrs McNee is the library assistant.
Pupils can access the library Monday to Friday from 8.00am, intervals, the last ten minutes of lunch time and after school. There are a range of resources to support the curriculum as well as fiction books, graphic novels, manga, magazines and comics to suit every taste and reading level as well as books for pupils with dyslexia. Pupils can also access FREE eAudio books, eBooks and eMagazines through the BorrowBox Library app on their iPad.
Library Information
Pupils can borrow up to three library books and they can keep them for a period of four weeks. There are NO FINES for late books. Resources can be requested and reserved.
We have an online catalogue called ‘Oliver’ that pupils can access via an app on their iPad. This allows students to search for and check the availability of resources before visiting the library. News pages - Falkirk High School Library Falkirk - Oliver
The library offers a variety of events throughout the year which pupils can take part in including:
- Author events
- World Book Day
- The Red Book Award
- Book Week Scotland
- The Royal Society Young People’s Science Book Prize
- Scholastic Book Fairs
- Storytelling project at catchment primary schools
- Arts and craft sessions
Library Activities/Clubs
Pupils have the opportunity to apply to work in the library as pupil library assistants. This is a great way for them to make new friends, increase their confidence and give them valuable skills and work experience for their CV or personal statement for college/university.
