Higher Mathematics
In Higher Maths, there are 5 main units.
The algebraic and trigonometric skills unit involves manipulating algebraic and trigonometric expressions, identifying and sketching functions, determining composite and inverse functions and solving algebraic and trigonometric equations.
The geometeric skills unit involves determining vector connections and working with vectors.
The calculus skills unit involves differentiating functions, determining the nature of functions, integrating functions, calculating definite integrals using integration, differential calculus and applying integral calculus.
The algebraic and geometric skills unit involves applying algebraic skills to rectilinear shapes, applying algebraic skills to circles and graphs and modelling situations using sequences.
The reasoning skills unit involves interpreting situations where mathematics can be used and identifying a strategy with explainig a solution and relating it to its context.
Pupils will sit an SQA exam in order to achieve this qualification.

Higher Applications of Mathematics
In Higher Applications of Maths, there are 4 main units.
The mathematical modelling unit involves understanding and applying the process of mathematical modelling to evaluate, analyse and interpret models and using software effectively in calculations.
The statistics and probability skills unit involves applying statistical skills to basic probability, data, correlation and linear regression and data analysis.
The finance skills unit involves applying mathematical skills to calculate present and future monetary payments, solving problems related to personal products and transactions to analyse the results and applying personal financial planning skills.
The planning and desicion unit involves understanding and applying project planning and decision making.
Pupils will sit an SQA exam and submit a project in order to achieve this qualification.
