National 4 Mathematics
In National 4 Maths, there are 3 mandatory units and 1 Added Value unit.
The Expressions and Formulae unit involves developing skills linked to straightforward mathematical expressions and formulae. This includes manipulation of terms, the simplification of expressions and evaluation of formulae. This also covers parts of algebra, geometry, statistics and reasoning.
The Relationships unit involves straightforward mathematical relationships. This includes solving equations, understanding graphs and working with trigonometric ratios. This also covers parts of algebra, geometry, statistics and reasoning.
The Numeracy unit involves real-life problems of numbers, money, time and measurement along with levels of accuracy, graphical data and probability to identify solutions to problems. This also covers using solutions to make and explain decisions.
The Added Value unit of Mathematics Test gives evidence of added value for the National 4 Mathematics course through successful completion of a test to show challenge.
Pupils will sit unit assessments in order to achieve this qualification.

National 4 Applications of Mathematics
In National 4 Applications of Maths, there are 2 main units.
Managing Finance and Statistics has 2 outcomes. Outcome 1 is 'using reasoning skills and financial skills linked to straightforward real-life contexts' which involves interpreting a situation involving finance and identifying a strategy, using mathematical processes to find a solution to a problem and explaining a solution in its context. Outcome 2 is 'using reasoning skills and statistical skills linked to straightforward real-life contexts' which involves interpreting a situation involving data and identifying a strategy, representing data appropriately and comparing data to draw conclusions.
Geometry and Measures also has 2 outcomes. Outcome 1 is 'using reasoning skills and measurement skills linked to straightforward real-life contexts' which involves interpreting a situation involving measurement and identifying a strategy, using mathematical processes to determine a solution to a problem and explaining a solution in its context. Outcome 2 is 'use reasoning skills and geometric skills linked to straightforward real-life contexts' which involves interpreting a situation involving geometry and identifying a strategy, using appropriate mathematical processes to find a solution to a problem and explaining a solution in its context.
Pupils will sit unit assessments in order to achieve this qualification.
