Unit 1 – Careers

Pupils relate Laboratory Science skills to different industries and sectors.  Pupils produce a report on the importance of Laboratory Science in a range of careers.  Pupils produce a CV linked to applying for a job in the Laboratory Science field.

 

Unit 2 – Working in a Laboratory

Pupils will develop skills in safely working in a laboratory setting.  Pupils will be assessed on their risk assessment writing skills, their ability to safely make chemical solutions and their relevant numeracy skills.  Pupils will learn about hazard symbols and the how to correctly store a range of chemicals. 

 

Unit 3 – Practical Skills

Pupils will learn how to carry out a range of advanced scientific techniques using very specific science equipment.  Pupil will learn how to carry out microbiology techniques, use the microscope, colorimeter, perform chromatography, distillation and titrations.  They will safely measure radioactivity and use a range of electrical meters. 

 

Unit 4 – Practical Investigation

Pupils will then use all the skills learned throughout the course to plan, design, carry out and write up their very own project in Laboratory Science.
