Why Choose Business?

Many young people will start up in business and all will work within a business.

 

Studying Business will enable pupils to develop: a knowledge and understanding of how business works; financial awareness in a business context, customer care skills, ICT skills which are relevant to a business experience, skills for life and work as well as many aspects of literacy and numeracy, decision making and problem-solving skills, skills to operate and collaborate.

 

BUSINESS WILL ENABLE LEARNERS TO DEVELOP:

  • Explore different areas of management within a business
  • The skills you need to succeed in business or start on your own
  • Transferable skills (such as problem solving, communication and numeracy that are required to work in ANY industry.
  • An oversight of all areas of business

National 4 Business

Involves studying 2 units (Business in Action and Influences on Business) and completing an Added Value Unit.

 

Pupils carry out activities that will give them:

- an appreciation of how and why businesses develop and operate in today’s society.

- an appreciation of the impact that a range of internal and external influences has on business decision making.

National 5 Business Management

The N5 Business Management course highlights ways in which organisations operate and the steps they take to achieve their goals. It enables pupils to understand and make use of business information to interpret and report on overall business performance, in a range of contexts.

 

This course enables pupils to develop:

- knowledge and understanding of the ways in which society relies on business to satisfy needs and wants

- an insight into the systems organisations use to ensure customers’ needs are met

- enterprising skills and attributes

- financial awareness, in a business context

- an awareness of how external influences impact on organisations

 

Pupils are assessed through an Assignment (25%) and Exam (75%).

Higher Business Management

The Higher Business Management course highlights the different ways in which large organisations operate. Pupils learn to understand and make use of business information to interpret and report on overall business performance.

 

Using current business theory and practice, the course reflects the integrated nature of large organisations, their functions and decision-making processes.

 

Higher BM is assessed through an Assignment (25%) and Exam (75%).
