What is an Apprenticeship?
In Scotland, there are 3 main types of apprenticeships – starting with a Foundation Apprenticeship that all Senior Phase Pupils (S4-S6) will have the opportunity to choose as part of their subject choice. Modern and Graduate apprenticeship opportunities can be undertaken once students are in the process of leaving (or left) Falkirk High School. There are lots of benefits to choosing to do an apprenticeship and below you will find some more details on the different types that are currently offered. Foundation Apprenticeship
Going into S4, S5 or S6? Set yourself up for a BIG future with a Foundation Apprenticeship.
Foundation Apprenticeships give senior phase pupils an inside view of Scotland’s thriving industries.
Whilst still enrolled as a school pupil, students can gain valuable work experience combined with a recognised qualification at the same level as a Higher without the need to take a final exam.

Modern Apprenticeship
There over 100 modern apprenticeships available, from healthcare and financial services to construction and IT, which let people aged 16 and over combine on the job training and gain an accredited industry recognised qualification – all whilst earning a wage at the same time! Modern Apprenticeships are available from SCQF 4 - SCQF 11 and can take from 1 year to 4, depending on the type and level that is undertaken.
By doing an apprenticeship, you will gain valuable workplace skills, increase your confidence, resilence and social skills, work as part of a team and enhance your career opportunities.

Graduate Apprenticeship
There are 13 different types of Graduate Apprenticeships where individuals can achieve a degree level qualification whilst working, learning valuable skills and earning a wage and getting the chance to experience ‘uni-life’ as part of your week will be spent learning at the university campus relevant to your course.
Graduate Apprenticeships are available between SCQF Level 9 (ordinary degree) and SCQF Level 11 (masters degree) which will take between 2 and 5 years to complete. Speak with Katrina or Vikki for more information or visit Graduate Apprenticeships
