At FHS, we share the Scottish Government’s vision for Learning for Sustainability, which recognises the social, environmental and economic benefits of developing informed, responsible and active global citizens.

At Falkirk High School, Learning for Sustainability is delivered through FHS Goes Wild, our whole-school approach which brings together sustainability, outdoor learning and community partnerships. This approach focuses on building cultural capital through meaningful outdoor experiences, pupil leadership and real-world action, rather than a standalone action plan.

Our approach is underpinned by three key areas:

Learning and Engagement
Ensuring consistent, high-quality learning opportunities that develop understanding of sustainability, climate change and environmental responsibility through the curriculum, outdoor learning and pupil-led initiatives.

Infrastructure and Practice
Improving systems and facilities to support sustainable behaviour, including the introduction of a new whole-school recycling system and active participation in energy-reduction initiatives, such as achieving 3rd place in the Falkirk Schools Energy Reduction Challenge.

Partnership and Community Impact
Strengthening links with partners and the wider community to create meaningful impact beyond the school. This includes hosting the Falkirk Schools Climate Conference (COP2), where pupils from all Falkirk high schools contributed to a shared climate action plan, now being supported by Falkirk Council. Further partnerships include work with FEL Scotland to promote active travel and support community reforestation projects (About us – FEL Scotland).

Through FHS Goes Wild, Falkirk High School continues to embed Learning for Sustainability across school life, empowering young people to make informed choices, contribute positively to their community and shape a more sustainable future.
